A SURVIVOR of savage domestic abuse has trained as a security guard so she can protect herself against the brute who attacked her.

Martina Connolly, 46, said she no longer fears former partner Laurence Elmore who hit her over the head while she was heavily pregnant with twins.

The monster was jailed for three years for the shocking attack on Martina and her mum Patricia but he was freed from Wheatfield Prison last month.

Mum-of-two Martina has taken out a safety order against Elmore but said she now feels she can defend herself physically if the need arises.

She told the Irish Sunday  Mirror : “I did a training course to become a security guard and I now have my PSA [Private Security Authority] licence.
