He was reported missing after he went on holiday to Marbella, Spain, with mum Melanie Batty - who was not his legal guardian and grandfather David Batty in 2017 aged 11. Ms Caruana is Alex's effective guardian - and will be until he turns 18. He is a 'ward of court, with High Court judges remaining his legal guardian. Ms Caruana Alex's appointed 'special guardian, supported by Oldham council, dealing with day-to-day care.
