BOSSES ANNOUNCE £440M COMPLETION PLAN FOR T2
MANCHESTER Airport has announced lift-off for a £440 million complete the new Terminal the M.E.N. can reveal project to 2 building, The investment marks the final phase of the airport's £1.3bn transformation programme first unveiled in 2015 and sounds the death knell for Terminal 1 after more than 60 years of flights and memories.
Announcing the news today, airport bosses and civic leaders in Greater Manchester said the new terminal would create thousands of jobs and was expected to unlock billions of pounds of economic value for the region over the next decade and beyond.
The first phase saw the new T2, which opened in July 2021 after Covid delays, more than double in size. Due to finish in 2025, the airport said the completed terminal would cater for around 80 per cent of all passengers, with T1 then set to close 63 years after it was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1962 as the first in Europe to use a 'pier' system where holidaymakers remained under cover until boarding.
