Four phases of work have been put forward for Stockport Station – to provide a new footbridge, new entrances, refurbished platforms and access improvements.
Councillor Grace Baynham has also called for a bridge to link platforms and replace the underpass, as well as an improved station building with better retail and hospitality options.
It is aimed at increasing rail capacity to meet demand in a catchment area of around two million people – those who live within 30 minutes.
