The attackers, who are believed to have sped to the scene on a bicycle and an e-bike, set upon the lone 19-year-old in Gorton on Monday evening.
The targeted hit left the teenager with potentially life-changing injuries. He was set upon at around 5.45pm, attacked with knives and a firearm.
The suspects, the M.E.N. understands, then fled on bikes.
An attempted murder investigation was launched before a 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were arrested.
