A BELOVED chippy has encouraged people to 'support local businesses' as two big firms gear up to move into town.
The owners of Chips @ No.8, on Clifton Road, in Prestwich, have posted a heartfelt message online saying they feared potential new arrivals might result in loyal customers 'forgetting us!
Earlier this year, famous Manchester-based pizzeria Rudy's announced it had chosen Prestwich as the location for its seventh Greater Manchester restaurant. There are also rumours, which have not been confirmed, that bakery Gail's is also set to move to the Bury village.
The chippy, which made it into the shortlist for the Fish and Chip Takeaway of the Year award at the prestigious annual National Fish & Chips Awards earlier this year, posted on social media: "Prestwich's tag of an 'up and coming' town really is a thing! The chains have identified it as such and are moving in! The impending redevelopment of the precinct has hastened the charge."
