City centre traffic chaos forced me to abandon my car

TRAFFIC problems around Deansgate forced a resident to abandon her car on a side street near her city centre home.

The woman, who has asked to stay anonymous, lives in the area and was returning home from a meeting in Cheshire when she hit the Quay Street and Deansgate junction at 5pm on Wednesday, March 1. That evening, United played at Old Trafford in the FA Cup.

However, the woman says traffic wardens have told her the congestion is a regular occurrence. When the M.E.N. spoke to motorists on Quay Street on a non-matchday this week, they reported 40-minute queues to travel down the road out of town.

"I thought I would cut through by turning left onto Deansgate and right onto St John Street, but I didn't move for 15 minutes, the woman said. "So I parked on St John Street and walked down.
