MANCUNIANS will pay nearly five per cent more in council tax from next month after the authority approved its 2024-25 budget.
It means band D council taxpayers will now pay £2,068.25 annually from April, up from £1,969.50 this year. However, nine in ten households will pay less than that amount, as they fall into lower bands of A, B and C.
The 4.99 per cent rise comes as councillors warn the city’s finances have ‘arrived at the cliff edge’, with bosses facing ‘large gaps in 2025/26 and 2026/27’.
That’s despite ‘depleting smoothing reserves over the next three years,’ Labour’s executive member for finance Rabnawaz Akbar said.
