Dias form could give Gvardiol big chance

RUBEN Dias is an imperious centreback. But when you’re usually faultless it becomes incredibly glaring when cracks begin to show.

Dias is incredibly important to City. His return from injury last season directly correlated with the start of the unbeaten run that secured the Premier League title over Arsenal. If not for Dias, the Blues likely would not have won the Treble.

But past success does not guarantee future glory and nor does it earn you an unquestioned spot in Pep Guardiola’s side. Just ask Aymeric Laporte. Quality cannot be forgotten but form must be taken into account and Dias has been far off his lofty high standard in recent weeks.

It was his reckless sliding tackle against Chelsea which ensured the match ended in a draw and he put the Blues in a perilous position against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.
