The weather may have been a little overcast, but the buzz was still alive and kicking with the parade getting underway at Varley Street in Miles Platting at lunchtime yesterday before making its way to the city centre.
The day is held to honour the patron saint of England and, according to legend, the dragon slayer. A soldier in the Roman army, he refused to denounce his Christianity in the fourth century and was executed during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian.
This year's parade featured the usual flurry of Saint George's Crosses being waved from pillar to post as horse-drawn carriages, buses, and military vehicles made their 2.5m way into town.
