Manchester Evening News|January 03, 2024
A GRANDMA was forced to leave her home for Christmas because of damp and mould- after she had already been moved out for two weeks so the issue could be fixed.

The 54-year-old says she returned from a fortnight staying in a hotel throughout December to find her home still covered in damp and mould, despite apparent work by her housing association to deal with the problem.

Aileen Waugh says she has been reporting 'penetrative and rising damp' in her home for 'years and years, fearing it has had a serious impact on her health. She says work was finally planned to start on December 8 to clear the mould and damp and Aileen moved into a hotel, arranged by the ForHousing housing association.

But when Aileen came back to her Winton home two weeks later when the work was scheduled to be completed for, she says she found that black mould remained visible on the walls.

She says the mould and damp had become such a problem in her home that floorboards had previously collapsed. "The bath fell through the bathroom floor because of damp underneath the floorboards, the couch fell through the living room floor while I was sat on it," she said.
