A MUM says she has been left 'traumatised' after her three-year-old daughter became seriously unwell when she was given a pitta bread at nursery.
Chelsea Garman's daughter Pippin was diagnosed with anaphylactic allergies to dairy and egg when she was just seven months old. Despite the severity of her allergies, Chelsea said the family 'do their best' to ensure she lives life to the full and doesn't miss out on experiences.
But when Pippin's old nursery closed suddenly, Chelsea and her husband were left with the daunting task of finding a new place they felt safe to send their daughter to.
The mum-of-four told the M.E.N. she felt like she'd 'hit the jackpot' when she found Broadway Day Nursery in Royton, Oldham.
"I went and viewed a few new nurseries but felt they lacked when it came to their allergy policies," Chelsea explained.
"At Broadway Day Nursery we felt like we hit the jackpot. The setting was inviting and clean, the aunties were caring and friendly, the children were curious and confident." Before Pippin started, Chelsea said she completed a detailed risk assessment with the nursery staff that laid out a number of precautions and processes to help keep Pippin safe. One of these was to ensure ingredients of every food item for Pippin was checked with every single food delivery, because ingredients can change.
The 36-year-old mum said she felt 'reassured' they had found 'the perfect place' for Pippin, and she started at the nursery with no issues.
But when Chelsea collected her daughter on December 18, they hadn't even walked out the door before she knew something was seriously wrong.
