AN EYEWITNESS has described how residents used buckets of water and a fire extinguisher in a bid to save a man who 'set himself on fire' on a petrol station forecourt.
The emergency services rushed to the Tesco forecourt on Victoria Avenue East in Blackley at around 7.35pm on Monday to reports of concern for the welfare of a man.
It is understood the man set himself on fire. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening burns after being treated by fire crews at the scene. It is understood the man has now died of his injuries.
One eyewitness told the M.E.N. members of the public put out the fire before the fire service arrived.
