SISTER SAYS UNLAWFUL KILLING CONCLUSION IN SECOND INQUEST HAS BROUGHT FAMILY 'JUSTICE'

I once thought justice meant Joshua Molnar in prison for the rest of his life

YOUSEF Makki’s sister says her family has ‘justice’ after a coroner ruled her brother was unlawfully killed by his friend.

The 17-year-old Manchester Grammar School pupil, from Burnage, was fatally stabbed by Joshua Molnar in Hale Barnes, Trafford, on March 2, 2019.

It followed a day spent with his schoolfriends Molnar and Adam Chowdhary smoking cannabis on their bikes in the leafy Trafford village.

Molnar was attacked and had his bike stolen after Chowdhary had called to buy more cannabis. It led to a turn of events which ultimately ended in tragedy.

A previous inquest held in 2021 was quashed by the courts following a legal challenge by Yousef’s family. Prior to that, Molnar was acquitted of manslaughter in a criminal trial.

But following the second inquest, which Yousef’s family battled to secure and was held last week, coroner Geraint Williams yesterday gave the conclusion that the Burnage teenager was unlawfully killed by Molnar, whose actions he said amount to manslaugher.

The conclusion prompted gasps from the family’s supporters inside Stockport Coroners Court. And, at an emotional press conference following the inquest, Yousef’s sister Jade Akoum said her family could now try to ‘move on with our lives’. She added: “I once thought that justice meant Joshua Molnar being in prison for the rest of his life.
