GRAN IN HER 60s TAKES ON TRIATHLON INCLUDING 2.4 MILE SWIM, 112 MILE BIKE RIDE AND A FULL MARATHON TO RAISE FUNDS IN SISTER'S MEMORY

A 60-YEAR-OLD nicknamed 'Super Nan' will take on an IronMan triathlon to raise vital funds for charity in her sister's memory.

Maureen Wilkins, from Stockport, a teacher at the Seashell Trust where she tutors SEN and autistic young people, began training in January.

The mammoth challenge in Nottingham on Sunday will include a 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and finally a 26.2 mile run a marathon thrown in at the end for good measure.

Maureen previously represented Great Britain in duathlon championships around the world and is a running coach at Stockport Harriers, where she co-founded an inclusive group for athletes with disabilities.

But facing the Ironman - the hardest triathlon it's possible to do, more than double the length of the Olympic distance she is understandably nervous. She said: "Oh God, it's here now, I can't do any more to prepare now. I'm not racing it, I hope I can do it in 17 hours. I'll get it done and raise more awareness."
