VERNON Kay said that replacing Ken Bruce on BBC Radio 2 is 'like replacing Sir Alex Ferguson' at United as he took over the morning slot.
The Bolton-born presenter has stepped into Bruce's after the veteran presenter's 31 years on the show.
Vernon, 49, said he has no doubt about the enormity of the task and has even rehearsed his commute to the BBC studios several times.
He said: "Let's not beat around the bush. Ken's show is massive and it's all thanks to him and what he's done over that long period of time. It's like replacing Alex Ferguson.
"It's taken them [Manchester United] several managers. I hope it doesn't take Radio 2 several DJs to replace Ken."
Speaking of the commute from his Buckinghamshire home, where he will get on an 8am train and ride an e-Bike for 11 minutes, he added: "I'm feeling more nervous about the journey than I am putting the microphone up. I've got my helmet, I'm ready to go.
