Landslip brings trams to a halt

No trams will operate between Rochdale town centre and Oldham Mumps due to the landslip, Transport for Greater Manchester has revealed.

The landslip has caused a stretch of track to move around 20 centimetres in just a week. TfGM says it has reached the point where trams can no longer pass fixed infrastructure, like the overhead line pole pictured. Trams are now said to be unsafe to run.

The issue is said to be ‘land movement affecting the track between Derker and Shaw, and Crompton’, with the exact area of track involved just past Stoneleigh Park out of Derker on the way to Shaw. As a result, engineers are on site assessing the issue.
