Mum caused her partner's death in double speed limit Audi crash

Alicia Fairclough, 34, had been driving Thomas Benson's Audi A8 when it crashed into a tree in Bolton. She had been travelling at double the 30mph speed limit at the time of crash on Lever Park Avenue in Horwich, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Prosecutors claimed that she was driving 'far too fast' and was responsible for the collision, in which their eight-year-old daughter was also present. She denied being responsible for the crash. In the aftermath of the collision, which occurred after they had attended a wedding at Rivington Barn, the child told a passerby who went to help her: "Why did my daddy do that?" Giving evidence, the girl claimed that her father had 'grabbed' and 'pulled' at the wheel of the car.
