A SCHOOL has paid touching tribute to a mother and son killed in an avalanche on a Christmas skiing trip.
Kate Vokes, 54 and her son Archie, 22, lost their lives after the avalanche swept through an off-piste section of the resort of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, near Mont Blanc in the French Alps, on December 28.
Both were former pupils at the private Cheadle Hulme School, Kate graduating in 1985 and Archie in 2020.
In an email seen by the M.E.N. sent to staff and parents, the school sent its 'thoughts and deepest condolences' to the family.
Kate was praised for her years of association with the school through her family's charitable foundation.
Archie, meanwhile, was described as a 'dedicated and inspiring athlete' who the school said 'exemplified the spirit of CHS through his achievements and the positive impact he had on those around him'.
The school said: "We are very sorry to share the deeply saddening news of the tragic passing of Kate and Archie Vokes.
