Teen's historic debut as City wait in wings

CAVAN Sullivan broke the MLS record to become the youngest ever debutant yesterday aged just 14. He is a player widely tipped to be joining Manchester City in 2027 - albeit nobody will officially confirm that.

Sullivan, who signed professional terms with Philadelphia Union earlier this year in a landmark deal, came off the bench in a win over the New England Revolution in the 85th minute. At 14 years and 293 days, he breaks the MLS record set by Freddy Adu 20 years ago and is also the youngest North American player in the top flight of a team sport.

The teenager's rise is of interest to City, too. Upon signing his professional contract, he claimed a 'collaboration' between Philadelphia Union and the City Football Group, with widespread reports that he will move to City once he turns 18 in September 2027.

City, Philadelphia and the MLS have not confirmed any such deal and there was no reference of the CFG or City in Philadelphia's release over his new deal, or since. City won't confirm any move or 'collaboration' involving Sullivan and they are regularly linked with highly rated teenagers from across the globe.

And while reports say a transfer will happen, the closest official comment has come from Sullivan himself - pointing to a 'collaboration' with the CFG rather than any concrete signing.
