What United hope Wilcox will bring to Ratcliffe's revolution within Old Trafford

JASON Wilcox has recently emerged as a target for United as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to appoint a director of football.

Since acquiring a stake and taking the reins at Old Trafford, the British billionaire has set out to take the Red back to 'the very top of English, European and world football!

He's made great progress so far on his mission to rebuild the club, forking out millions on several boardroom appointments.

The likes of Sir David Brailsford and Omar Berrada, who worked closely with Wilcox during a period at City, have been brought in to steer United in the right direction.

Ratcliffe has shown no signs of slowing down either, with his next task reportedly being the appointment of a director of football. M.E.N. Sport understands that the Reds have approached Southampton about Wilcox.

United have offered the Saints the equivalent of a full year's salary as compensation, even though the 53-year-old only arrived at St Mary's in the summer. Nevertheless, Wilcox has emerged as a target for the Reds - and it's clear why.

Speaking in October 2016 - a year before becoming City academy director - he spoke of his desire to 'spoil' Pep Guardiola with academy graduates. Wilcox said: "I'm not someone who gets carried away, but I have never seen anything like the talent we have at this academy.
