Ex-bodyguard: Diana ‘would have helped princes make peace’

Former royal protection officer Ken Wharfe believes the princes’ late mother would have been “a good go-between” to broker peace and would also have urged Harry and Meghan to give it “more time” before fleeing to the US.

The SAS-trained security expert, known as Uncle Ken to the two young princes, spoke to GB News as the Duchess of Sussex was criticised for the “calculated timing” of publicity which co incided with the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death in a car crash.

Ex-BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole called her podcast and magazine interview “tacky and tasteless” at “a time of great sadness” for Prince Harry and his brother as well as many others whose lives Diana touched.

The Sussexes reportedly returned to the UK yesterday to support charitable causes. They are said to have been on a commercial flight, without their children Archie and Lilibet.

There are no plans for them to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, even though they will be staying at their Windsor home Frogmore Cottage, a 15-minute stroll from William and Kate’s new home Adelaide Cottage, also on the Queen’s estate. Mr Wharfe said: “Like Diana, Meghan was incredibly popular when she first joined the Royal Family, who tend to have an issue with people coming into the family who are popular, so I think that was an issue.

“Diana would have been a good go-between to sort this out. Having been there herself, Diana would have seen the value of giving it some time. With regard to William and Harry, I feel like they really need someone to broker this set-up. As two young children, William and Harry were joined at the hip. Prince Charles saw them as part of a pyramid to take the Royal Family into the future.
