The recent Netflix movie Luther: The Fallen Sun - a spin-off from Elba's hit BBC series - saw the actor turn his iconic renegade Met detective John Luther into a secret agent in the final scenes.
The gritty film was such a success that the streaming giant is now working with Elba - who also produced it - and show writer Neil Cross to continue Luther's screen legacy as a UK government agent.
Elba, 50, who won a Golden Globe award for the role in 2012, confirmed he has a development deal in place with Netflix.
