Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan convened a high-level meeting on Saturday to address the persistent issue of stubble burning and its contribution to air pollution, particularly in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR).
Chouhan highlighted the ongoing measures taken by the central government to tackle this issue, stating that the past year has seen promising results with significant reductions in stubble burning incidents. Specifically, Punjab reported a 35% decrease in stubble burning incidents, while Haryana reported a 21% decrease.
The Minister emphasized that state authorities have ramped up monitoring efforts, appointing nodal officers to oversee the issue. He added that awareness campaigns are also being intensified to educate farmers and the public about the environmental impact of stubble burning.
