The Supreme Court in the case Kishore Samrite Versus State Of Madhya Pradesh observed and has granted interim bail to former Samajwadi Party MLA Kishore Samrite, who was being convicted and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for attacking a Sub-Divisional Magistrate and setting fire to his vehicle.

The bench comprising of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was hearing the present matter.

The bench in the case passed the order wherein the appeal is filed by Samrite against the Madhya Pradesh High Court judgment, wherein the court partly modified the order of conviction and sentence imposed by the Special Court.

The Supreme Court in its order stated that, 'having heard learned counsel appearing for the petitioners as well as learned State counsel and taking into consideration all the facts and circumstances, the petitioners are directed to be released on interim bail subject to their furnishing bail bonds to the satisfaction of the Trial Court.'

The present matter relates to an April 2004 incident when an unlawful assembly broke the furniture in the office of SDM, Lanji and set the vehicle of the said SDM on fire.
