Last week, we raced on the recently scarified Standside course for the first time and I can't express how lovely it was to ride on the track. The track was absolutely in impeccable condition and raced as beautifully as it looked, so well done to the entire track team at 4Racing for the outstanding job done.
Last week saw the running of a couple of high-quality races, and we saw William Robertson beat Lucky Lad in a scintillating race. William Robertson proved the importance of race fitness while Lucky Lad indicated he has all the class to be the horse to beat in upcoming feature races after a lovely start to his campaign.
We also saw very promising Greaterix return from a break, and what a performance he gave me.
It's not easy to bring horses back after a lengthy break and even more difficult to bring them back at the same level they were at before the layoff. But what I will say is that he gave me the feel of a high-class horse and with expected natural improvement, he'll be a major contender in all the upcoming three-year-old features up to 1600m.
I was also fortunate enough to win the Model Man Mile in KZN for Mike de Kock on Artist's Model and he gave me a really good feel too.
He took a major step forward from his maiden win and he showed he had the potential to compete at a very decent level.
Thanks to Mr De Kock for his support and for trusting me with these two high-class horses - and well done to the winning connections.
Overall, it was a very good week for me, and I managed to bag six winners from the time of writing last week's column.
Racing today takes place at Turffontein on the Standside track as well as Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. This double header gives punters the opportunity to watch quality racing in both provinces as the Turffontein card is headed up by the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode Onamission Charity Mile and backed up by five other feature races.
