Round-leaved plants are not only unusual, but there is something very appealing about their shape.
In many cultures, the round, or circular shape is regarded as a symbol of completeness, perfection, and the cyclical nature of life, as experienced through the changing seasons.
In feng shui, circles represent harmony, wholeness, and infinity because circles have no beginning or end.
There is also a theory that the preference for circular shapes is deeply ingrained in all of us from birth. While sharp angles are associated with danger, a circular shape is believed to evoke feelings of safety and peacefulness.
Chinese Money Plant
One of the best-known round-leaved plants is Pilea peperomioides, also known as the Chinese Money Plant.
This dramatic plant originates from southwest China and was originally believed to bring good fortune and abundance because its leaves resemble ancient Chinese coins.
It is easy to care for and can be grown as a tabletop plant or in a hanging basket. The plant grows best with plenty of bright, indirect light and should not be placed in direct sunlight.
It responds to the "drench-and-dry" approach of watering it thoroughly and then letting the soil dry out, together with weekly misting.
