As India celebrates its 75th Constitution Day on November 26, 2024, citizens are reminded of the monumental efforts that led to the creation of the country's guiding framework of governance. Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas, marks the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1949—a document that defines the democratic, sovereign, and secular values of the nation.
A MILESTONE IN NATION-BUILDING The Constituent Assembly, tasked with drafting the Constitution, held extensive debates over nearly three years. Remarkably, over 53,000 citizens visited the Assembly's gallery during this period to witness history in the making. The assembly was a microcosm of India's diverse society, comprising accomplished members from various walks of life. Among them were 15 pioneering women, whose contributions in areas like education, social reform, and the freedom movement helped shape a progressive Constitution.
