As Chinese lens manufacturers improve their quality and introduce a wider range of prime lenses, independent lens manufacturers from Japan have not been sitting idle. New zoom lenses with wider ranges and bigger apertures are being introduced. Sigma is the first off the block with its new 28-105 mm f2.8 DG DN ART lens.
Currently, the lens is one of a kind and is available for Sony E mount and Panasonic L mount users. Like all Sigma lenses, this lens is also made in Japan.
The Sigma 28-105 mm f2.8 is superbly finished and boasts solid build quality. Magnesium alloy has been used liberally in the construction thereby achieving both less weight and solid build. Additionally, a water and oil repellent coating has been applied on the front element. Although the lens is dust and splash proof, Sigma advises careful use in wet conditions. The lens weighs 995 gms and is supplied with a case and a lens hood. The lens accepts 82 mm filters.
