A deadly confrontation occurred on Monday afternoon in Manipur's Jiribam district, resulting in the deaths of ten suspected Hmar militants and one CRPF jawan. The clash took place in Jakurador, about 30 km from Jiribam, under the Borobekra sub-division.
The incident was sparked by a coordinated attack by heavily armed militants, who ambushed a CRPF camp and police station before setting fire to shops and residential buildings in Jakurador Karong. Authorities suspect the militants wanted to instill widespread panic and instability in the region.
The assault, launched around 2:30 pm, saw militants clad in camouflage and armed with sophisticated weaponry. They first targeted the Borobekra police station with heavy gunfire before advancing towards Jakurador Karong. In the chaos that followed, they set several shops belonging to the Meitei community ablaze.
The violence quickly escalated into intense firefights between the militants and security forces, lasting for an hour. During the exchange, eleven militants were killed, while CRPF constable Sanjeev Kumar sustained injuries and was evacuated to Silchar Medical College in Assam for treatment.
