12 horses used in illegal race on EEH sent to rehabilitation

The Free Press Journal had reported on Friday about an FIR registered by Pantnagar police against unknown organiSers, horse cart drivers, owners and others involved in the illegal race. The action was taken after videos of the race held in the early hours of December 3 were uploaded on social media.

In recent court proceedings, the 50th Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Vikhroli, Mumbai, granted a Maharashtra-based sanctuary interim custody of 12 horses following their use in the illegal horse-cart racing as a result of PETA India’s intervention. This comes a week after the 65th Judicial Magistrate Court in Andheri granted the interim custody of four horses to PETA India following their use in a similar illegal cart race on the Western Express Highway in June.
