At the age of 43, Atishi becomes the youngest CM of Delhi. She was elected by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as its leader on Tuesday morning after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name. She is also the first woman CM from AAP and the 17th overall in the country.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, Atishi termed it a 'sad day' because of the circumstances behind Kejriwal's resignation. She added that he set an "example of honesty and integrity" by stepping down.
Atishi, who joins the likes of Sushma Swaraj of BJP and Sheila Dikshit of Congress, in heading the Delhi Government, added that "Arvind Kejriwal changed the lives of people of Delhi. We all have to do just one work now - to make Arvind Kejriwal the chief minister of Delhi again."
