In a span of 24 hours, two doctors were attacked in two hospitals in Chennai, highlighting the lack of security for medical professionals. Dr Balaji Jegannathan, an oncologist at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital, was stabbed seven times by the son of a woman who was being treated by the doctor for ovarian cancer. A few hours later, Dr P Hariharan, a psychiatrist at Stanley Medical College, was attacked by a patient. Both doctors are fortunately recovering from their injuries, but they have been mentally traumatized.
