It came to light during the investigation in the ₹2.81 crore fraud case involving Dr Ruchika Tandon, a PGI Lucknow doctor, who was defrauded by criminals posing as CBI officers.
The probe revealed cybercriminals paid beggars small amounts ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs2,000 in exchange for their identity documents. The IDs were used to open bank accounts in multiple banks.
CYBER FRAUD fraudsters linking their cell phone numbers to the accounts, giving them full control. It allowed the criminals to transfer stolen money from one account to another, making it challenging for law agencies to trace the transactions.
