The BMC recently allotted Rs4.28 crore for procurement and distribution of pressure cookers in Mahim constituency at the request of local MLA Sada Sarvankar. The Free Press Journal can reveal.
Mumbai Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar directed the civic body to transfer Rs5 crore meant for civic work to the Women and Child Department for cooker distribution; information received under RTI has revealed.
The latest revelations come on the back of allegations that Chandivali MLA Dilip Lande distributed 50,000 pressure cookers purchased by the BMC as part of a social welfare scheme at a cost of Rs12.5 crore. The FPJ had exclusively revealed that these pressure cookers were purchased at highly inflated prices—nearly four times what they cost in the open market. Lande stamped his name on these cookers before distributing them to women in his constituency.
