The political drama surrounding the Mahayuti coalition reached a crescendo on Monday evening as the BJP took its first concrete steps towards government formation.
To begin with, the BJP parliamentary board has announced that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani would oversee the Maharashtra legislative party meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
At this meeting, to be held at 10 a.m. in the Vidhan Bhawan's Central Hall, the 132 newly elected BJP MLAs will select their new state legislative leader.
This will be the prelude to the swearing-in ceremony at Azad Maidan on December 5 at 5 p.m., which will be attended by PM Modi.
The baby steps were dovetailed by yet another development: NCP leader Ajit Pawar making an air dash to Delhi. With that, the tensions within the alliance spilled over and caretaker CM Eknath Shinde cancelled all his engagements to return to his native village to nurse his ailing self. (Late reports said Devendra Fadnavis had called on Shinde to inquire about his health).
