Today, the world celebrates antiquity of Indian culture and its rich civilization. However, during the dark ages of colonialism, this antiquity was not known of. It was popularly believed that Indian history began with the invasion of Alexander. But things took a turn in 1921-22, when two officials of Archaeological Survey of India – Rakhal Das Banerjee & Daya Ram Sahni – excavated archaeological sites of Mohenjodaro and Harappa.
Both sites revealed evidence of excellent town planning, seals and other archaeological evidence. These findings made it clear that around 5000 years ago, a Bronze Age civilization flourished in Indian Sub-continent which is similar to likes of Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilization.
