Submarine collides with fishing vessel

An Indian Navy submarine collided with a fishing boat, identified as Marthoma, with a crew of 13, about 70 nautical miles North West of Goa late on Thursday night.

The submarine has been identified as one of Scorpene class.

While eleven fishermen were rescued, search was on for the remaining two fishermen in coordination with Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai. Six naval ships and surveillance aircraft have been diverted to the area to augment the search efforts," said an Indian Navy spokesperson. Coast Guard and Coastal Police and the local fishing communities were also engaged in the search in the dark waters.

The Indian Navy declined to share details of damages to the diesel electric submarine armed with long-range guided torpedoes and anti-ship missiles.
