Advisors to Donald Trump are suggesting strategies to end the Ukraine war that could see large parts of Ukraine ceded to Russia, according to a Reuters analysis and interviews with individuals close to the President-elect.
These proposals outline potential paths to negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, using incentives and threats.
A former Trump national security official familiar with the transition detailed three main proposals: one by Trump's Russia-Ukraine envoy, retired Army Lieutenant-General Keith Kellogg; another from Vice President-elect JD Vance; and a third from Richard Grenell, Trump's former acting intelligence chief.
Trump has repeatedly pledged to resolve the conflict within 24 hours of his January 20 inauguration but has yet to specify how. Analysts and former officials doubt the feasibility of such a quick resolution, given the war's complexity. Still, statements from Trump's advisors hint at the contours of a potential plan.
