PLYMOUTH has been given more than £8m from the Government to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping. The cash will be used to provide homes amid a housing crisis which is gripping the city.
Minister for Housing and Homelessness Felicity Buchan announced the funding boost which comes in the form of four separate grants from Homes England's Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme (SHAP). The cash, which is part of a £220m Government package, will be delivered by Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Access to Housing (Path), Young Devon, and the YMCA.
SHAP is specifically allocated to benefit adults experiencing multiple disadvantages who may have a history of rough sleeping and require high levels of support. It also helps young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness or rough sleeping.
In Plymouth, the money will be spread on four different schemes:
