A very deserved three points

PLYMOUTH Parkway resumed Southern Premier South league action with their first visit to the capital this season to face Chertsey Town.

The hosts gained promotion last season by comfortably winning the Isthmian South Central title gaining 100 points from a 31-8-1 record (one point deducted). They were unbeaten at home in league matches for 23 games which stretched back to the end of the 22/23 season.

On the eve of the match, a further addition to the Parkway squad was announced with the signing of teenage forward Kieran Edworthy, the son of former Pilgrim Marc Edworthy. This was the fourth addition to the squad in a week following Harry Lee, Jack Endacott and Frankie Monk. The starting 11 were unchanged from Tuesday.

On a fine day on an excellent pitch, Parkway began well looking comfortable and in the third minute, Mitch Beardmore dispossessed the home left back and put in a telling cross which was well defended. On eight minutes, a long diagonal ball from Shane White was well controlled by Dylan Jones who then played in Jack Endacott who shot over and wide. Within a minute, Chertsey mustered their first attack with forward Jack Mazzone working his way inside the box but Harry Lee was alert in the Parkway goal and his challenge saved the situation.

On 10 minutes, there was a big penalty shout when Beardsmore was seemingly brought down in the box but only a corner was given which came to nothing. On 12 minutes Beardsmore again was causing problems and as he rounded the keeper, he was clipped and may have gained a penalty had he went down but he tried to stay on his feet and the ball just outran him. A cross from Callum Hall followed shortly after with Dylan Jones shooting over the bar.
