Argyle no match for classy Leicester

FOXES TOO CUNNING FOR PILGRIMS AS PREMIER LEAGUE PEDIGREE SHOWS

LEICESTER City's Premier League pedigree was clear to see as they inflicted a 4-0 defeat on Plymouth Argyle at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The Pilgrims only trailed by one goal at half-time, a 14th minute penalty from Stephy Mavididi after he had been fouled by defender Julio Pleguezuelo, and had created some good scoring chances.

But the Championship leaders netted three times in six minutes early in the second period - through Patson Daka, Mavididi and Wilfred Ndidi - to take complete control of the match.

Leicester continued to press forward in search of more goals but the Pilgrims were able to prevent them from adding to their tally.

Even so, it was still Argyle's heaviest defeat of the Championship campaign, coming after they lost 4-1 away to Bristol City in mid-September.

Steven Schumacher made six changes to his Argyle side for the visit to King Power Stadium, which included former Leicester midfielder Callum Wright making his first start since that game against Bristol City. Wright suffered a knee ligament injury at Ashton Gate and had played four times as a substitute after returning to fitness before lining up against the Foxes.

Also coming into the team were Pleguezuelo, Matt Butcher - for just his third Championship start of the season - captain Joe Edwards, Mickel Miller and Adam Randell.

Dropping down to the substitutes' bench were Bali Mumba, Jordan Houghton, Dan Scarr, Brendan Galloway, Luke Cundle and Kaine Kesler-Hayden.

Leicester were without suspended defender Ricardo Pereira and his place went to Hamza Choudhury, who also captained the Foxes as they targeted their 16th win out of 20 league games this season.
