COUNCIL LEFT WITH BILL TO CLEAN UP HAZARDOUS WASTE
CARL EVE
'Asbestos will cost thousands to dispose of'

A RESIDENT who filmed piles of rubbish and hazardous waste dumped at Prince Rock playing fields has said more of the same fly-tipping will follow unless the council changes its tactics regarding Travellers.

The man – who has asked not to be named – said: “I’m an asbestos surveyor and have been for about 25 years, so I knew exactly what it was when I saw it. These are old asbestos roofing tiles and it is going to cost Plymouth City Council thousands of pounds to remove. I went back again today [Thursday] and Gilpin contractors are there now beginning to remove it.

“I’ve been following the Travellers for a long time, back from when they set up camp on Horsham fields many years ago. I represented Plymstock at a meeting with the council and the Gypsy Council at the Guildhall.
