Convenience store rises from the ashes, a year after devastating fire

The Spar on Old Laira Road shop has been closed since last Boxing Day.

An accidental fire led to severe smoke damage across the building.

Fortunately the shop was closed at the time and there were no injuries.

Its 13 staff were all deployed to either Pike Road or Reservoir North Hill Spars but they will be returning when the shop reopens just in time for Christmas. Bosses say it will be "bigger and better" than before after the huge rebuild with the shop dubbed the "phoenix" as shoppers awaited its transformation.
