Despite challenges, our city centre is 'not dead'

THE arrival of major shoe chain Rieker and several business expansions is proof that despite current issues with its redevelopment the city centre is not dead. Steve Hughes, chief executive of Plymouth City Centre Company, said the multi-million pound upgrade is actually encouraging businesses into the city’s shopping focal point.

He said: “The high street still faces enormous challenges but it is not dying. Lots of businesses are encouraged by the level of investment which is on the way for Plymouth’s city centre.”
