Fire station evacuated due to rat infestation

A PLYMOUTH fire station has been evacuated after being overrun with rats. About 30 firefighters and other staff, a fire engine and specialist equipment have been moved out of Camels Head Fire Station while the rodent problem is dealt with.

Crews were told to pack up and leave on last Tuesday, when the rat infestation became intolerable. It is not known when staff can return but the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) said it is unlikely to be until at least early next week.

The firefighters and their gear have been moved to Crownhill Fire Station, and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) stressed they are still on active duty. The patch covered by Camels Head crews is also being serviced by the Crownhill and Greenbank stations.
