ST MELLION VETERANS
The day started with a win for Tavistock's David Orris and John Harding in a tough encounter against Chris de Beaufort and Martin Saunders but, alas for Tavi, that was as good as St Mellion were enjoying the good fortune of five clear victories and two halves to give them victory.
After the two captains reviewed the day's events following an excellent dinner the players were left in no doubt that the return up on the moor would be challenging. (The Fossils did not need to be reminded about the reversal of fortunes suffered in their last few visits to Tavistock.) There were wins for Andy Thomas & Guy Pennington, Ian Edwards & Keith Field, Stan Serwata & Simon Waddington, Colin Marshall & Brian Pound and Phil Cumming & James Simpson. Mike Page & Albert Gunning and Rob Parsonage and Will Carslaw halved their games.
Phil Cuming won nearest the pin for St Mellion and Ashley Austan for -Tavistock.
Mike Page, Peter Pascoe and : Bruce Sobey were winners of the 'Waltz' played off a full handicap for the teams of three.
They scored 76 points and won by a point from Tony Prout, Colin MarI shall and Alan Malvern, who were runners-up on countback from Tony Hurley, Paul Turner, and Keith Abbott.
