THE new Government has been urged to fix the "stark health inequalities" cutting short lives in Plymouth - and a picture of a baby from the city is one of 50 being used by campaigners to hammer home the message.
Health Equals says life expectancy in the city is 12 years lower than in some other parts of the UK. The campaign organisation points to factors including income, housing and air quality that can cut lives short, and it says more than one in six children in the South West are currently living in poverty, according to Government figures.
Health Equals - a coalition of 27 organisations including Mind, the British Red Cross, Citizens Advice Bureau, Shelter, Crisis, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and more has launched the #MakeHealth Equal campaign. It commissioned photographer Emli Bendixen to photograph 50 babies in 50 homes across the UK to illustrate what it says is "the shocking range of life expectancies across different towns and cities".
