THERE are some familiar names among the bookies' favourites to become the next Plymouth Argyle manager after Steven Schumacher chose to join Stoke City as their new head coach.

Among them are Michael Duff and John Eustace, who started the season in charge at Championship clubs Swansea City and Birmingham City respectively, as well as the likes of Paul Cook, Nathan Jones, and Neil Warnock is high up the betting market too.

However, Argyle's two managerial appointments since Simon Hallett has been the majority owner and chairman have been young, modern and forward-thinking, first Ryan Lowe in 2019 and then Schumacher in 2022.

So could the Pilgrims look for someone of a similar mould, and give a fresh face a chance in the Championship? How about someone from overseas? Norwegian Gaute Helstrup and Dutchman Dick Schreuder are listed in the bookies' odds.

Herald Sport's Argyle reporter Chris Errington posted a question on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday to Argyle fans about who they would like to see appointed as the new manager at Home Park.

Jak Ball: Dick Schreuder. Not many of the names being linked excite me too much but he does.

Chris: Pep Guardiola would be incredible.

StrictlyPlymouth: I like the sound of Andrew Crofts, or perhaps one of the potential candidates from abroad. Definitely not a 'known' name.

Ty Brett: Tony Mowbray.
