PLYMOUTH’S tungsten mine could soon be producing millions of tonnes a year after it received the go-ahead to kick-start production. Tungsten West Plc has been given a vital permit by the Environment Agency to operate its mineral processing plant and will now look to raise cash to start mining and processing the ore in 2026.
This is the final permit needed for the vast Hemerdon mine, near Plympton, to start production. Tungsten West said it is now making “substantial progress” on an updated feasibility study which is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
The issuing of the permit represents a significant step in progressing the Hemerdon mine and, alongside the anticipated completion of the feasibility study, is the gateway for securing further financing for the project, enabling the company to complete the money-raising required to bring the mine into production.
